Washington beat the Buffalo Bills 37-24 in Super Bowl XXVI at the Metrodome, finishing one of the most complete seasons of the era with Joe Gibbs' third championship. Mark Rypien threw two touchdown passes, Doug Williams added a relief touchdown pass, and Washington controlled most of the game despite Buffalo's late push. Running back Timmy Smith had starred in an earlier Washington title, but here it was Rypien who earned MVP honors for calmly directing a balanced offense.
