The San Francisco 49ers edged the Cincinnati Bengals 20-16 in Super Bowl XXIII at Joe Robbie Stadium in a finish defined by Joe Montana's poise. Trailing late, Montana led a 92-yard drive in the closing minutes and found John Taylor for the winning touchdown with 34 seconds left. Jerry Rice caught 11 passes for 215 yards, still one of the great receiving performances in Super Bowl history, and he was named MVP as Bill Walsh closed his 49ers tenure with another title.
