Washington overwhelmed the Denver Broncos 42-10 in Super Bowl XXII at Jack Murphy Stadium after one of the most explosive quarters in championship-game history. Doug Williams threw four second-quarter touchdown passes as Washington scored 35 points in the period, erasing an early 10-0 deficit and breaking the game open. Williams became the first Black quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl, and his 340 passing yards and four touchdowns earned MVP honors.
